Businesses in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador can access federal programs, ACOA's Atlantic-specific streams, and their own provincial agencies. This page lists what we track for all four provinces, and says which funding is a grant and which has to be repaid.
Atlantic Canada is where our coverage is deepest. Federal programs apply everywhere in Canada; the provincial programs here are specific to the four Atlantic provinces.
This is the single most expensive misunderstanding in the region. ACOA's Business Development Program and REGI stream are usually interest-free repayable contributions, not grants. BDC is a bank. Newfoundland's Business Investment Program is a term loan. All four routinely appear on aggregator lists under the heading 'grants'. Real non-repayable money exists, Newfoundland's Business Growth Program is explicit about it, but you have to know which is which before you build a budget.
Start with the advisor, not the form
Several of the biggest programs here have no public application form on purpose. Nova Scotia's Innovation Rebate Program is applied for through a Regional Business Development Advisor, NRC IRAP starts with an Industrial Technology Advisor, and New Brunswick's Business Navigator service is free one-on-one help with permits and regulation. Those conversations cost nothing and often surface programs you would never have found by searching.
Size gates decide more than sector
Nova Scotia's Innovation Rebate Program requires a minimum $350,000 provincial investment. Its Payroll Rebate generally expects more than 20 new full-time positions. Neither is a fit for a three-person shop, no matter how innovative the project. We apply those thresholds in matching so you don't spend a week on an application you were never eligible for.
Intake windows close without warning
CanExport's intake ended at noon on 31 August 2026 with no next round announced. Canada Summer Jobs closes months before the summer it funds. We re-check every program's official page daily and mark closed intakes rather than leaving them listed as available.
