Selecting the right government support involves navigating different options available to organizations operating in New Brunswick, ranging from specialized resource exploration to community infrastructure and agricultural sector improvements. This overview outlines three distinct funding initiatives administered by federal and provincial authorities, detailing their scopes and intended participants.
Exploration Incentives
This provincial grant program provides geological, technical, and financial support for exploration and development activities to mining companies and prospectors. The Department of Natural Resources offers geoscience information and coordination for the mine approval process, with individual grants for proved eligible costs for mineral exploration projects not exceeding $100,000. It is designed for prospectors and mining companies engaged in mineral exploration and development stages in New Brunswick.
Build Communities Strong Fund – Local Impact Stream
This federal grant program offers contributions to enhance public community spaces and climate resiliency through small-scale construction and renovation activities. Contributions under this initiative will not exceed $1 million per project, and applications are accepted on a continuous intake basis until all available funding has been committed. Eligible applicants include entities delivering community infrastructure, such as Indigenous governments or Indigenous-led not-for-profits, municipal or regional governments or agencies, and public-sector organizations.
AgriAssurance Program - Kosher and Halal Investment Component
This federal contribution funding program supports quality assurance systems and slaughter practices for the Canadian kosher and halal red meat sector, specifically beef and veal. It helps recipients develop assurance systems and integrate specialized guidance documentation, with the application intake open until September 30, 2027, and the program ending on March 31, 2028. Funding is available to eligible not-for-profit organizations and for-profit organizations working within this specific agricultural sector.
Which one fits
These programs serve very different sectors and activities. An organization working in resource extraction would look toward provincial mineral exploration assistance, whereas entities managing public spaces focus on regional infrastructure enhancements. Meanwhile, businesses or groups operating within the specific red meat agricultural sector have a targeted option for quality assurance and slaughter practices.
The scope of activities also varies significantly. Mining entities receive geoscience and technical coordination alongside financial assistance, while public-sector and community groups undertake small-scale construction and renovation for climate resiliency and public spaces. In contrast, agricultural participants focus on developing assurance systems, training, and documentation for kosher and halal markets rather than general community or mineral infrastructure.
