This guide covers funding programs available to support businesses and organizations with growth, productivity, and regional economic development in Alberta.
Northern and Regional Economic Development Program
This program provides grants between $10,000 and $300,000 for stakeholder-driven projects that strengthen regional economies, support investment readiness, and build the foundation for long-term economic growth. It is for municipalities, Indigenous communities, and incorporated not-for-profit organizations with an economic development mandate. The application deadline is November 19, 2026, and applicants must be able to match the funding requested at a minimum of 25% for Indigenous applicants or 50% for all other applicants.
Alberta Manufacturing Productivity Grant
This pilot program offers access to advice, expertise, and up to $30,000 in matching funding for technology upgrades and new machinery and equipment. It is for small- and medium-sized manufacturing businesses with a physical location in Alberta that make, refine, refurbish, or process a product or material and employ between 5 and 750 employees. The funding aims to enhance manufacturing productivity, capacity, and market entry.
BRIDGE program
This program delivers tailored business supports, including training, coaching, strategic advice, personalized business planning, and up to $5,000 in financial support. It is designed for women entrepreneurs and small business owners who have been operating a business in Alberta for one to 5 years. The objective is to help participants move from early-stage operations to an established, growth-ready future.
Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) in the Prairie provinces
This initiative provides non-repayable funding to help Prairie businesses and supporting not-for-profit organizations respond to tariffs and trade disruptions. Eligible businesses can receive up to $3,000,000 in combined funding, comprising up to $2,000,000 in liquidity assistance and up to $1,000,000 for pivot projects. Intake is open until December 31, 2028, or until all available funding is committed.
AgriAssurance Program - Kosher and Halal Investment Component
This contribution funding program supports quality assurance systems, information sharing, and slaughter practices for the Canadian kosher and halal red meat sector. It is available to eligible not-for-profit and for-profit organizations to develop assurance systems and integrate specialized guidance documentation. The intake period is open until September 30, 2027, and the program ends March 31, 2028.
Which one fits
The five programs serve very different profiles. For regional economic projects led by municipalities or not-for-profits, the Northern and Regional Economic Development Program applies. Small and medium manufacturers upgrading equipment look to the Alberta Manufacturing Productivity Grant, while newer women-led small businesses look to the BRIDGE program. Businesses facing trade tariffs turn to the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) in the Prairie provinces, and organizations focused on the kosher and halal red meat sector explore the AgriAssurance Program - Kosher and Halal Investment Component.
